Pain & Headache Center
Millions of Americans needlessly suffer with chronic, painful conditions which last for months, and sometimes years. The pain is disabling, affecting their lives daily.
Encompassing Total Care
We understand pain affects more than just backs, necks or arms - it affects the whole person. For the patients who are evaluated at the Comprehensive Pain and Headache Treatment Center at Griffin Hospital, a complete multi-specialty approach toward treatment is emphasized.
A Behavioral Approach
The program involves psychological assessment and support to help the patient deal with pain and establish new ways of coping with daily activities, as well as relationships with work and family.
State-of-the-art Treatments
Our expert physicians are skilled in all types of peripheral nerve blocks and surgical techniques for implantation of pain control devices. They utilize spinal and alternative routes of medication administration for patients with truly refractory pain syndromes. By integrating a number of other treatment modalities and medical disciplines, this program incorporates psychology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and alternative therapies like stress reduction, yoga and meditation. These improve the effectiveness of pain treatment and offer patients the convenience of accessing comprehensive care in one facility.
Chronic Headache Management
The program for chronic headache management is only one of a few in Connecticut with a neurologist specially trained and dedicated to the treatment of headaches. Full neurological evaluation and specialized testing, such as EEG, are available. The latest technology is used in treatments and therapies, including the newest medications and alternative techniques, like dietary modification, stress reduction, biofeedback and hypnosis.
Incorporating Physical Medicine
Utilizing the latest techniques and equipment, such as the B- 200 back machine and LIDO Isokenetic Rehabilitation and Testing System, a staff physiatrist and physical therapists are part of the total treatment plan. These diagnostic services can detect the extent of functional loss and help to establish rehabilitation goals. The Center is a modern, state-of-the-art facility, dedicated to treating patients with chronic pain through advanced methods of pain control. These treatment modalities include implantable pain devices, electrical stimulation's, investigational medications, osteopathic and alternative measures. We offer a full battery of testing equip- ment to aid in the diagnosis of painful conditions. These tests assist our physicians in finding the source of pain and offer treatments aimed only at the patients' specific problem.
